After a months-long delay, Microsoft is finally rolling out Window 10 to older handsets.
Windows 10 Mobile, the mobile version of Microsoft's newest operating system, is beginning to roll out to more than a dozen handsets. Though the update will likely come as welcome news to those who may still have a device running Windows Phone 8.1, there is a catch: not all older Windows Phone devices are supported.

The full list of devices includes: Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 (1GB), 638 (1GB), 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q and MCJ Madosma Q501. Microsoft also has a new UpdateAdvisor app that will notify you if you're eligible for an update.
Curiously, some devices that were eligible for the initial Window 10 Mobile rollout as part of Microsoft's Insider program aren't included in today's update. It's not clear if Microsoft plans to make the update available to more devices, though the company notes that some devices won't ever be eligible for the update.
"As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations,
many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience
many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience," Microsoft says. "Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience." Originally slated to roll out to older devices at the end of 2015, Windows 10 Mobile has already been available on some newer handsets that shipped with the operating system installed. Windows 10 Mobile includes support for Microsoft's Continuum feature, which allows you to project the apps on your phone to an external display, a new and improved Cortana as well as redesigned Office and Outlook apps.
