What's New?
The main difference between the Huawei Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition and the original is the use of sapphire crystal glass on the front – you've probably guessed that from its name. This material is one of the strongest and most scratch-resistant available. For comparison, the scratch-resistance ability of a sapphire glass is way more than that of the Corning Gorilla Glass to the extent that penknives were provided to test this when being demonstrated by Huawei.
This material is increasingly being used for camera lenses because of its great strength and scratch resistance. The cost of the material, as a result of its quality, has made its use for mass smartphone production rather difficult limiting it to premium devices like the Huawei Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition.
In addition, the Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition’s back is now made of ceramic, another material known for being scratch-resistant and very strong. The colour of the metal framing around the edges of the smartphone has also changed from silver-like to soft gold rose.
Specifications and Features
The specifications of the Huawei Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition are virtually the same as the original Ascend P7, aside the changes noted above. It comes with a 5-inch IPS display with a HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The device is fitted with a 13 megapixels rear camera and an 8 megapixels front-facing camera. The 6.5 mm-thin Ascend P7 Sapphire Edition is powered by a quad-core Cortex A9 chipset clocked at 1.8GHz. It has 2GB of RAM, an internal storage space of 16GB and is supplied with a 2500 mAh battery. The NFC-enabled device runs on the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) operating system.
This premium limited edition of the Huawei Ascend P7 was first launched in early September – about five months after the original Ascend P7 hit the market.
